Professor Mark Wardle(Department of Physics and Astronomy, Macquarie Uni)
Mark studied maths (1982) and then physics (1984) at the University of Auckland (New Zealand), before moving to Princeton (USA) for a PhD in astrophysics.
He stayed in America to work at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, joining the faculty at the University of Rochester in 1993.
In 1995 he came to Sydney, where he was initially with the Research Centre for Theoretical Astrophysics at Sydney University. In search of better coffee, he moved across town to Macquarie University in 2002, and became Head of the Physics Department there in 2006.
Mark's research is mainly concerned with various aspects of the interstellar medium, with a particular interest in the Galactic Centre.
